EAST SURREY
AREA NADFAS YOUNG ARTS PROJECTS - 2005
There is no set format for projects; they vary according to local needs
in each Society’s area. Projects encompass a wide range of activities
and may benefit individuals or any number of children.
Ashtead DFAS sponsored the purchase
of ready mixed paints for the art classes in Barnet Wood School
(Primary School). This will save teachers much time in mixing up
the cheaper paints. |
Betchworth DFAS held
a Musical Soirée The Trumpet Shall Sound with Crispian Steele-Perkins
in the United Reform Church, Reigate in June. Also taking part was
Jamie Mason a young harpist, 16 years old. The Society is sponsoring
an annual scholarship for Jamie to have harp lessons with the orchestral
harpist Rachel Masters.
Betchworth DFAS also provided help for art projects at The Acorn School
(Infant School)
They had an excellent review in the Surrey Mirror Group of papers and
a write up in the autumn edition of the Nadfas Review.

Bookham DFAS sponsored
an artist in residence for one day at The Dawnay School (Primary
School).
Cheam DFAS provided support to St Dunstans
School, Cheam for a theatre performance by The Cat’s
Grin Company, plus a theatre workshop for the pupils. They
also sponsored two first-year university music students who
played at Cheam DFAS’ anniversary dinner.
Dorking DFAS Every year Dorking DFAS provide
an allocation of funds to local schools for art materials and
visiting artists. The Young Arts Representative for Dorking
DFAS also taught some classes, on a voluntary basis, at St.
Michael's First School, Mickleham. Subject - How Art Paintings
can tell us about History, The Tudors'.
Horsley DFAS helped sponsor Clandon Church
of England School’s (Primary School) art work in the
making of a mosaic for their new garden/playground.
Leatherhead DFAS supported Woodlands Special
Needs School in Leatherhead - ages 7-15 yrs.
The Society paid for a visiting artist during the school’s
Art Week in June.
The pupils sent a special card ‘designed’ by themselves
plus some photos of their artwork to the Society to say a big thank
you for the support they had received.

Limpsfield DFAS supported Hurst Green School, ages 3-7 years,
for an artist in residence during their Arts Week. They also made a
donation to The Living Paintings Trust.
Reigate DFAS helped to support the Young
Embroiderers Guild - ages 8-12 years. They provided continuing
sponsorship for the Priory Museum (housed in Reigate Priory
School). A large part of the museum’s work is in support
of education.
